Moderator:  Hi, welcome to One Question with UpTop Health. Today we’re going to talk about the article “Are you ready to take on new interoperability standards for healthcare payers?” My question after reading the article is, what are the two top things that payers should be doing right now to be prepared for the new mandated standards? And Yuri, could you lead us off?

Yuri: The biggest effort for interoperability is going to be first assessing the sources of the data that you have because most companies have disparate sources and it will have to be put into a single repository like a data lake, and then secondly, ensuring that the quality of the data is there because a lot of data, when you source it from different databases, will have either duplicate information, missing information, or incomplete or corrupt information in some way.

What companies should be doing now to prepare for interoperability is to look at their disparate sources of data and see how they can unify them in a single database, a single data lake or another repo, then work through the data quality issues that are going to be present because the FHIR interface is not going to be the biggest effort. It’s collecting the data, and organizing the data to make sure that you have quality output for the APIs to expose.

Moderator: And Craig, do you have any thoughts you want to add?

Craig: On top of that is just making sure that you fully understand what all the interoperability requirements are and do an assessment of where you stand from an infrastructure, database and data structure perspective. To make it easier we created an interoperability quiz for healthcare payers to be able to quickly assess where they’re at; from there you can build a plan. To find that you can go to our website under our Insight section, choose tools and then our interoperability quiz.

Moderator: Thank you guys.

Craig/Yuri: Thank you.
